Experiences with a twist
Internship at Fraai Workshops
Would you like to learn in a setting where children are not simply “looked after,” but come together for a few hours to create, play, or run around in the park? Then Fraai might be your place.
Fraai Workshops is my own neighbourhood project in Tolsteeg (Utrecht), where I occasionally organise small-scale activities for children. Think of craft afternoons at my kitchen table, a real-life chase game in the park, pancakes from my front yard, or a summer talent show as a grand finale. Everything is voluntary, joyful, and created with a big heart for the children in the neighbourhood.
What you can learn at Fraai:
-
You will learn how to prepare and guide activities, from the first idea all the way to execution.
-
You will support children in playing together and growing, and you will reflect on your own actions as well as mine.
-
We will regularly talk about pedagogy, for example: what does respect actually mean during a tag game?
-
At the same time, you will learn how to move flexibly within a relaxed setting that is still clearly guided.
Who is if for?
I enjoy working with students who are curious, eager to learn by doing, and not afraid to get a little wet during a water fight. 😉
Whether you start off a bit shy or already have lots of ideas, if you are open to feedback and truly want to put the child at the centre, you are very welcome.
What you bring:
-
Affinity with children: You enjoy working with children between the ages of 4 and 12 and are interested in their social, creative, motor and cognitive development.
-
Creative and development-focused thinking: You are able to come up with new activities and adapt existing ones so they remain fun, surprising and suitable for the children’s age and development. You support children in building a positive self-image and growing their confidence. You are willing to actively contribute to this and to further develop these skills if needed.
-
Flexibility and reflection: You can easily adapt to changing situations and reflect on your own actions, as well as those of others, in order to keep growing. You are able to receive constructive feedback and actively work with it to improve your guidance.
-
Strong communication: You speak and write clear Dutch and can communicate effectively with both children and parents. This also means that you inform me as soon as possible if you are ill or unable to attend, communicate clearly about your availability, discuss and submit your assignments on time, and make sure your internship hours are signed off properly.
If you are currently learning Dutch, feel free to get in touch so we can explore together whether your level is sufficient for this role just yet.
-
Collaboration: You are able to work well with other interns, volunteers and me. You actively contribute to a positive and supportive environment and communicate clearly with others to make the activities successful together.
Internship period and hours:
-
Internship period: The internship mainly takes place during school holidays, especially in the summer months.
-
Hours per week: The number of internship hours per week is usually between 3 and 6 hours, depending on the activities and your availability.
-
Activities: Activities usually last about one hour. Including preparation and clean-up, we spend around 1.5 to 2 hours per activity.
-
Larger events: Two to three times a year, Fraai Workshops organizes a larger event (such as a talent show or a KUBB tournament). These require extra preparation time, both beforehand and on the day itself. These events often take place on Fridays or during the weekend. I expect you to attend and help out at at least two of these events, unless you have a valid reason not to attend. The dates are always announced well in advance, usually at least one month beforehand, so you have enough time to share your availability. If you are unable to help for any reason, please let me know as soon as possible so we can look for a solution together.
Practical information:
